A pirate’s life for bean.
A comprehensive brand identity that captures the essence of a coastal coffee experience in Ocracoke, North Carolina, while avoiding visual beachy cliches. The visual identity conveys quality and charm particular to Ocracoke, appealing to locals and tourists alike by using one of the town’s most famous villains: Blackbeard.

LET ME (EDWARD) TEACH YOU SOMETHING.
Edward Teach, the infamous Blackbeard, was known for placing lit matches under his hat and in his beard. The effect made it seem as though he were smoking, and was quite an intimidating tactic back in the day! That’s where BlackBean Trading Company’s logo comes in, representing the match that struck fear into the hearts of many.
Besides bringing great coffee to Ocracoke, another goal of this cafe is education: bringing knowledge both obvious (like piracy) and local (like the annual Fig Festival) to visitors and regulars alike.
